Sandra Nanyunja

Sandra Nanyunja is the Kampala Hub Facilitator with the Refugee-Led Research Hub, where she coordinates research and professional development programmes supporting early-career scholars with lived experience of displacement in Uganda. Her work spans research facilitation, mentorship, and the development of pathways for researchers with lived experience of forced migration to lead knowledge production.

She has spent her career working at the intersection of refugee education, digital inclusion, and community-engaged programme design, with experience across curriculum development, blended learning, training facilitation, and digital skills initiatives that connect displaced and host communities to higher education opportunities.

Sandra is currently a PhD Fellow in Sustainable African Futures, jointly supervised at the University of Edinburgh and the University of the Witwatersrand. Her doctoral research examines digital literacy, displacement, and the intersection of policy, technology, and lived experience among refugee women in Uganda. She holds an MSc by Research from the University of Edinburgh, an MBA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Makerere University. Across her practice and research, she is working towards educational and digital futures that are designed with, not merely for, the communities most often left out of their making.
