Valerie Fatuma

Valerie is a Research Assistant at the Refugee-Led Research Hub. She initially joined RLRH as a research trainee. Her research interests focus on how refugees are using social media platforms for advocacy and amplifying their voices. She is passionate about advocating for refugees’ rights and engaging in impactful projects that can benefit her community and refugees worldwide.

Valerie received a scholarship from DAFI to pursue her higher education at the University of Nairobi, where she earned her BA in Journalism and Media Studies. During her fourth-year project, she produced a TV documentary about Congolese refugees, highlighting the legal challenges they face in Kenya. She has also worked as an Assistant Producer at Look Up TV, where she managed the morning show. Outside of work, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and prioritising time for self-care.
